Tracked carrier glossary
The terms, made clear.
A short guide to the measurements and names used across the tracked carrier range.
- Tracked carrier
- A powered machine on tracks, designed to transport supported loads or materials.
- Crawler carrier
- Another term for a tracked load-carrying machine. The name alone does not describe its capacity or attachment.
- Capacity
- The maximum rated load for a specified machine or configuration under stated conditions. Attachment ratings and complete-system working capacity are different things.
- Width
- The side-to-side dimension of a machine. An attachment or carried load may be wider than the base carrier.
- Ground clearance
- The vertical space between the ground and the lowest part of the undercarriage. It differs from platform or deck height.
- Gradeability
- The ability to travel on a gradient under specified conditions. Longitudinal and lateral limits describe different directions and are not unrestricted loaded working limits.
